Overview

Petros Iliadis, a hero from Agros, is commemorated with a monument near the Apeitos Gymnasium. Born in 1932, he attended the local schools and later joined EOKA, an organization fighting British colonialism. His passionate dedication led him to participate in a bombing attack of the Nicosia Post Office in 1956, where he was fatally wounded. Despite a futile operation to save his life at the General hospital, he passed away the next day. His father's farewell symbolized the village's pride and sorrow: "The laurel has a fragrance, my Petros, but it also has bitterness". Petros Iliadis sacrificed himself on the altar of freedom and supreme ideals. Agros nurtured, with its highest values, a fighter who demonstrated character and spirit.
